Trial simulation of state response to cases of domestic violence and violence against women

The National Institute of Justice concluded the campaign "16 days of activism against gender violence", carried out under the slogan #Moldova without Violence #NO EXCUSE for digital violence, through a practical exercise dedicated to strengthening the capacities of future law professionals in investigating and solving cases of violence.

The INJ audience, candidates for the positions of prosecutor and judge, together with students of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Moldova (USM) and the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts, participated in a trial simulation with the theme of a case of domestic violence with elements of digital violence. The activity aimed at developing professional skills and providing practical experience in an interdisciplinary setting.

The event took place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, being opened by Ramona Strugariu, director of the National Institute of Justice, Angelina Zaporojan-Pîrgari, executive director of the Women's Law Center, and Alina Șavga, doctor of law and university lecturer at USM.

"Today, as we mark International Human Rights Day, we are reminded that every child and every woman must feel protected, heard and supported when they need it. Consider that an exchange of harsh words online can constitute a form of violence and psychological pressure. That is why we must weigh ten times before writing or speaking anything. This responsibility concerns us all - men, women and children. I express the hope that the generation your help will contribute to building a more sensitive justice system, prepared to respond effectively to situations of violence", emphasized Ramona Strugariu.

The simulation activity was coordinated by Arina Țurcan, lawyer, INJ trainer, Eleonora Grosu, program director at the Women's Law Center, and Alina Șavga, doctor of law, university lecturer. The participants assumed the specific roles of a trial: judges, prosecutors and parties, being involved in the analysis of evidence, the formulation of pleadings and the drafting of documents specific to the trial phase. The exercise ended with the sentencing and an interactive question and answer session, which provided clarification on procedural specifics and strengthened the skills needed to handle cases of this type.

The action was organized by the National Institute of Justice, in partnership with the Criminal Law Department of the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova and the Women's Law Center.
