Representatives of the European Union Delegation, present at the opening of the seminar on combating electoral corruption
Today, September 18, 2025, at the National Institute of Justice, the representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova - Marcia Kammitsi, program manager, Foreign Policy Instruments Service, and Irina Cruceru, program manager for anti-corruption, prevention and combating of money laundering and recovery of criminal assets, - participated in the opening of the ninth seminar in the series of trainings dedicated to combating electoral corruption and illicit financing of political parties.
In her greeting message, Marcia Kammitsi highlighted the importance of the event: "This program came as a result of the unprecedented challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova in the electoral process. We hope that these initiatives and projects will come with targeted measures that will develop the capacities of the national judicial system. This training will help you learn new methods, best practices for detecting, identifying, documenting and condemning crimes related to electoral corruption."
For her part, Irina Cruceru emphasized the international recognition of the efforts of the Republic of Moldova and the complex challenges faced by practitioners: "You, the specialists and practitioners, are not only fighting corruption, crimes, crimes and criminals. You are fighting mentalities, you are fighting a certain culture, you are fighting reminiscences of a past in which corruption was a somewhat natural matter."
Today's seminar is part of a series of ten trainings, which are addressed to a number of around 250 professionals from the judicial system - judges specialized in the field of anti-corruption, prosecutors and criminal investigation officers. The training activities are organized by the National Institute of Justice, with the support of the project "Resilient democracy through the fight against corruption" (REDACT), implemented by UNDP Moldova and financed by the European Union.
