Public lecture on "How do we internalize international standards in judicial activity in the field of anti-corruption?"

Yesterday, the audience of the National Institute of Justice and students of the Faculty of Law of the USM participated in a public lecture on the topic "How do we internalize international standards in judicial activity in the field of anti-corruption?" (GRECO case study), given by Ms. Laura Stefan, doctor of law, anti-corruption expert. The presentation of the GRECO study generated debates and an interactive session, in which the audience and students asked questions about what it means, concretely, to internalize and assume solid international benchmarks in the fight against corruption, how Romania and the Republic of Moldova cooperate to fight corruption and money laundering, what is the role of new technologies in the effective fight against organized crime, what does high standards of transparency or integrity mean.
 
Laura Ștefan is the founder and coordinator for the rule of law and anti-corruption within the Expert Forum (EFOR) and has over 20 years of professional experience, combining public and private sector activity. She is a firm supporter of the anti-corruption fight and justice reform in Romania and in Eastern Europe, having a central role in the creation and consolidation of key institutions, as well as in the improvement of civil society tools intended to support reform processes. 
 
He elaborated and supported the adoption of some essential legislative acts in the field of anti-corruption, designed awareness programs and worked on the reform of the Public Ministry. She has also held important representative positions, such as: head of delegation and member of the bureau within GRECO, Romania's representative in the OECD Anti-Corruption Network and in the UN global forums on corruption and organized crime.
 
Ms. Ștefan is an Eisenhower Scholar and participated in the Leadership Program for Women in 2015, as well as in the Personnalités d'avenir program in 2017. In 2015, she was awarded the title of Woman of Courage by the United States Embassy in Bucharest. As a Chevening scholar, he completed the LLM (Master of Laws) program organized by the University of Cambridge (Great Britain) in 2003–2004. In 2022, he obtained his doctorate at Babeș-Bolyai University, with a thesis entitled "Anti-corruption in societies in transition".
