Judicial training dedicated to European Union Law and Human Rights

The National Institute of Justice is carrying out, all this week, activities aimed at strengthening the professional training of judicial actors in the field of European Union Law and Human Rights, reaffirming the institutional commitment to the European path of the Republic of Moldova. The current plans for initial and continuing training integrate new modules, developed following the recommendations of the 2022 TAIEX mission and in line with the requirements of the European Commission for Chapter 23 of the acquis communautaire - "Justice and fundamental rights".

During the initial training, the audience of the National Institute of Justice completes the European Union Law module, and this week and the next the training activities include topics on the powers and jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the rule of law and anti-corruption mechanisms.

For practitioners, the continuous training program addresses, through specialized sessions, two main directions: EU Law and Human Rights. The European component emphasizes judicial cooperation mechanisms in criminal, civil and commercial matters, as well as the protection of fundamental rights reflected in the jurisprudence of the CJEU. The module dedicated to Human Rights covers recent developments in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, standards on non-discrimination, equality and the protection of minorities. Current rules regarding the protection of migrants and persons under temporary protection are also analyzed.

To ensure an efficient transfer of expertise and European best practices, some of these activities are organized within the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Support for the reform of the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova", being facilitated by international experts and national trainers.
