Meeting at INJ with UNICEF representatives in the Republic of Moldova

On the afternoon of Monday, June 10, 2024, the Acting Director of the National Institute of Justice, Adrian Cerbu, met with the Deputy Representative of UNICEF in the Republic of Moldova, Ilija Talev, to discuss the challenges and needs of INJ in the areas of child protection, child-friendly justice, violence against minors and gender-based violence.

The dialogue focused on several aspects related to the initial training of candidates for the positions of judge and prosecutor and the ongoing training of INJ beneficiaries, emphasizing the importance of these professionals having the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively address cases involving children and their associated problems. Thus, the opportunity to organize joint training sessions on specific but current topics, such as international adoptions or international abductions of minors, was mentioned.

Another topic considered during the meeting concerned the development of practical guides and the updating of course materials to ensure a training process adapted to the needs of the time.

The parties expressed their commitment to work together to address child protection challenges and implement effective and sustainable solutions to improve the juvenile justice system and combat violence against them, including gender-based violence.

Olga Marandici, adviser to the INJ Director, and Ion Bocan, head of the continuous training Section, and Veronica Goinic and Tatiana Danilescu, child protection officers, from UNICEF Moldova also participated in the meeting.
