German e-evidence and cryptocurrency expertise

At the National Institute of Justice, between November 21-22, 2024, the continuous training course with the generic "Administration and assessment of electronic evidence. Cryptocurrencies" is being held. The training activity is organized in partnership with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), being addressed to prosecutors from the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, criminal investigation officers from the National Anti-Corruption Center, the National Investigation Inspectorate and the Service for the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering, as well as judges.

The event was opened by Ecaterina Popa, head of the Training and Research Directorate of INJ, and Frank Hupfeld, project coordinator for the Republic of Moldova and Georgia within IRZ.

German experts were invited as trainers: Dr. Barbara Krüll, prosecutor at the General Prosecutor's Office Bamberg, Bavaria, and Dr. Christian Beyer, professor at the Academy of Police and Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The seminar aims to provide participants with in-depth training by exploring the technical and legal mechanisms of cryptocurrencies. Participants will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of digital assets and blockchain technology and how they work. They will also learn how to combat cryptocurrency-related crime and become familiar with investigative strategies and methods of gathering and evaluating evidence. The interactive sessions will combine case studies and practical topical exercises.

The seminar "Administration and assessment of electronic evidence. Cryptocurrencies" is in line with the objectives established in national policy documents, including in the "Information Security Strategy of the Republic of Moldova for the years 2019-2024".
