Dialogue between INJ and CoE regarding collaboration in the segment of professional training in the field of migration and asylum
At the National Institute of Justice, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the bilateral meeting took place between the interim Director, Adrian Cerbu, and Lilja Grétarsdóttir, Head of the Cooperation Programs Department within the General Directorate for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
The discussions were focused on the challenges faced by the National Institute of Justice in the segment of judicial training in the field of migration and asylum, as well as the priorities drawn in this context.
The interim director of the INJ emphasized the importance of the collaboration and support provided by the Council of Europe, including through the "Consolidation of the protection of human rights of refugees and migrants from the Republic of Moldova" project, in order to effectively address the complex problems existing on this dimension. At the same time, the significant contribution of the Council of Europe to the organization of the study visit of the INJ delegation to Malta, to the Judicial Studies Committee and to the European Union Agency for Asylum was highlighted, which aimed to initiate an exchange of experiences and best practices, mainly in the field of migration and asylum.
The meeting discussed the possibilities of strengthening the partnership, which had a positive dynamic thanks to the current projects of the Council of Europe, as well as in the future, within the next Action Plan of the CoE for the Republic of Moldova.
The meeting was also attended by Ecaterina Popa, head of the Training and Research Directorate, Olga Marandici, advisor to the INJ Director, head of the International Relations Section, and Tatiana Bedros, senior coordinator of the CoE project "Consolidating the protection of human rights of refugees and migrants from the Republic of Moldova".
