Regional Conference "Strengthening Judicial Independence and Accountability: Regional Perspectives and Challenges"

The director of the National Institute of Justice, Ramona Strugariu, participated on Friday, July 18, 2025, in the regional conference dedicated to strengthening judicial independence and responsibility. The event brought together representatives of judicial councils and key institutions from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, together with international experts, members of civil society and the academic environment, being an important platform for the exchange of experience and best practices, in order to cooperate and promote the common values of democratic justice systems.

The intervention of the Director of the Institute took place within the panel dedicated to admission to the profession and the role of judicial training in maintaining professionalism. Ramona Strugariu spoke about the ongoing admission process at the INJ and highlighted the need for a predictable judicial system, where the guarantees offered fully reflect the responsibility of the profession: "We have generations that are, on the one hand, confident and enthusiastic, with a different mentality, on the other hand, quite worried about the predictability of the professions, the way they will find their place in the justice system and how they will be able to contribute. I think that the institutions with decision-making power have a duty to these young people - predictability and safety for the profession. Because now INJ graduates are not very sure that they will be able to continue this profession. We want to move towards a more predictable system with guarantees, a system similar to the one at INM in Romania". Also, the director of the INJ sent a congratulatory message to the magistrates on the occasion of their professional day, which is marked for the first time this year.

The regional conference "Strengthening judicial independence and responsibility: perspectives and regional challenges" was organized by the Superior Council of the Magistracy of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with the Council of Europe, within the joint EU-CoE project "Support for judicial reform in the Republic of Moldova".
