Two HELP e-courses on preventing and combating torture and ill-treatment have been activated

In the context International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, which is marked annually on June 26, the National Institute of Justice has activated two e-courses delivered on the distance learning platforms ILIAS of the INJ and HELP of the CoE: "Standards of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT)" and "Prohibition of ill-treatment in the context of law enforcement, security and other coercive contexts".

Distance training sessions are developed by the team of the European Program of the Council of Europe for the training of lawyers in the field of human rights, being adapted to the domestic legal order and mentored by trainers of the National Institute of Justice, certified HELP tutors.

In order to strengthen their knowledge and skills in the field of preventing and combating torture and ill-treatment, 92 INJ beneficiaries, including judges, prosecutors, prosecutors' consultants, judicial assistants, clerks, court and prosecutors' collaborators, INJ trainers and audience members, registered for these distance trainings.

The main objective of the first course is to familiarize participants with the essential standards of CPT in various places of deprivation of liberty. These include police stations, prisons, immigration detention centers, psychiatric facilities, and welfare centers. The second course focuses on the European and international human rights legal framework on the prohibition of ill-treatment. Both trainings are designed to provide comprehensive and practical training, using interactive methods, presentations, assessment tests, scenarios and reflection exercises, as well as case studies to ensure a deep understanding of the topics covered.

Beneficiaries of the training will receive INJ certificates based on the result of the final testing.
